unless you got complete engine be warned some of those brackets & pulleys getting hard to come by

ya i already baught the motor he says it was freshly rebuilt.. He was putting it together when i got it... I hope it aint a dud...

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT THE 396 CAME OUT OF...  HAVE YOU CHECKED THE #S TO MAKE SURE ITS A 396 NOT A 402? OR A 427 OR 454?  ANYWAY  YOU LOOK AT IT 396S ARE GOOD MOTORS AND SHOULD RIP 35S!

the 396's and 402's arent much different and both were very good engines, either way i would build it run it and have fun with it

Some 402's are labeled as 396's just to let you all know.

I had a 69' 396 out of a GMC truck .   Punched it .030, put edelbrock performer cam, perf intake and 750 Holley Vac sec carb and it ran awesome.   I owned it for 8 years and never pulled the valve covers off once.  I wish I still had it.

all a 402 is a 396 bored 30 over. i was told the 402 came about do to a machinest punching in the wrong bore at the factory. that is how they came about.

there were actually some casting differences between the 402's and the 396's too(or at least so ive heard)... get with 7d9 z28 he will tell ya everything ud ever wanna know with them, and hes been/is/was? in the process of building one

i just put one in my jeep punched out 60 over ran it last saturday ran great

ya its a 69 396 i just talked to the guy he said everything is new in the motor. i picked it up for $1000. He said it should have 400ft/lbs of torque and 350 h.p.
