1988 s10 blazer transmission ??

bought a 88 s10 blazer 700r4 trans went bad as I expected it would, having a bit of trouble finding another 700 r4, the junk yards have some but I would hate to install a transmission only to find out that it is bad so I have been reluctant to buy one from the scrap yard, but there seems to be alot of th350 transmissions for sale on craigslist I have read that I would need a adapter plate to use the stock s10 transfercase to the th350 and dont mind buying that plate, my question is has anybody here done this, and am I right thinking that a th350 is a much better transmission than the 700r4, any advice would very appreciated, the other option I am concidering is rebuilding the 700r4, thank you, mike.

the 700 is every bit as strong as the 350, the only problem with them is the tv cable, it has to be set right. and the 700 has better gearing than the 350
