So I Hear About This Recall Last Week About 97-01 Ford Gas Tank Straps Are Recalled, Sure Enough 2 Days Later My Rear Strap Breaks, I'm Thinking Cool I Finally Caught A Break And Get A Free Fix That I Dont Have To Do! So I Drop My Truck Off...Sittin In The Waiting Room And Dude  Comes In And Tells Me There Fighting Em, So They Give Me A Ride Home, Few Hours Later I Get A Call And They Tell Me I Have A Leak In My Tank And Its $650 To Fix It. I Told Him I Knew About It (Its At The Top So I Only Fill The Tank 3/4...Lazy Man Fix ) He Tells Me Its At The Bottom And By The Time I Get There I'll Be Lucky To Have Any Gas Left (I Just Filled It Yesterday) So Im Pissed...I Get There And Check It Out And Its Leaking Right Where They Put The New Strap...Wasnt Leaking When I Dropped It Off!! And The Guy Tells Me Ford Wont Cover It Because Its A Rust Issue! I Dont Care If Its A Rust Issue, It Wasnt Leaking Before And Now It Is...Hell I Gotta Work At 5am Tommorow And Gotta Fix It! And Natuarlly The Shop Manager Is Gone

For The Day So It Looks Like Im Going In There And Raising Hell Until I Get My New Tank! Its A Bunch Of Bologna To Put It In Pg Terms....Trust Me I Would Love To Write What I Really Think But I Wanna Keep It WGM Friendly

That dose suck but he might be right. I had a 87 chevy I went to put new straps in ( they looked good just the ends were cracked) as soon as i went to drop the right side strap is was sorta stuck in the bottom center, so I gave it a little tug and sure enough there was a small rust spot under the strap on the tank and when I pulled the strap off it started leaking.  The tank never had a leak at all until I removed that one strap. So maybe that happened with this tech that did your tank.

The Strap Was Broken In Half And Wasnt On The Tank At All, The Service Sales Guy Said The New Straps Fit Alot Tighter So When They Put It On And Cranked It Down It Broke It , I Know It Was Bound To Happen Sooner Or Later But To Take My Truck In And Its All Good To Having  To Deal With This And Losing This Much Gas Really Sucks And Yanks My Chain

lmao the guy my friend bought his bogger from used a windshield washer solvent container for his loggin truck

we had a old jeep with a 305 and 35's ran it from a anitfreeze jug full of gas under the hood just had to carry a 5 gallon can with ya in the woods lol.

So you knew you had a bad tank that leaked at 3/4

Had free straps put on ...and didnt elect to repair tank at that time

And now your mad that is leaking in a new spot after messing with it ??


I feel for ya .....but

It's not like you didnt now it was comming  ...I mean...of course they were going to be ruff with it ...and if it happens to leak when they are done...oh well...they do change parts to keep the lights on ...ya know


You really didnt expect them to try and rope you into a new tank purchase ...when you knew you already had 1 rustty leak ......

I Wasn't Gonna Pay Them To Fix A Small Leak At The Top Of The Tank While They Replaced Some Straps, But When They Cause A 3 Holes At The Bottom Of The Tank That Cost Me A 1/4 Tank Of Fresh Gas From The Time It Happened Till I Got It Fixed That Sucks

well the straps are new so thay will come loose so go to the junk yard get a tank and put it in?
