JEEP HELP - RUNNING HORRIBLE

okay i just purchased a 97 xj with a 4.0 H.O and ran okay but was getting worse as i drove becuase it had almsot year old gas so i took it to auto store. the check engine was on and thru 14 codes. 6 codes were for messed up injectors, multiple miss fires bad coil bad map bad o2 and few other things. well i changed out

map sensor
coil
used cap in better condition
fresh gas with injector cleaner

it runs good in park and then acts like its missing then runs great in park at ideal and when you rev it. then you put it in gear and it run good then sputters and stalls or acts like it missing like crazy.

im pulling my hair out trying to figure it all out cuz its driving me crazy just want it to run good


so i ask you guys what could it be?

bad injectors or clogged injectors?
bad cap and rotor?
bad plugs and wires?

someone help me please

all the codes are comming from one or 2 things. got any code numbers? if it had old gas get some octane boost and run better gas like mid grade or premium. try changing the fuel filter

dont know if this will help but mikes ford did the same thing a jeep guy told me his did the same thing it was a fuse that was what it was in mikes truck to good luck

x2 with that many codes check all your fuses check wireing if its an auto it could be a slnoide in the trans post all the codes solenoid

i agreee its only a few things causing it  and i did this with the gas already and there is no fuel filter

it was a 15 amp in the power distribution

its not the fuses i checked them all.

the codes that were throwin were

6 bad or stuck open or closed injectors
bad coil
bad map
bad o2
bad wheel speed senor
unplugged trans senor
multiple miss fires

dont no where all the fuses in a jeep is but mikes was under the hood sorry couldnt help

sounds like you might have a bad PCM or ECM whatever Jeep uses... maybe swap out the computer for a known good one see what it does...

you have one problem makeing it have all them codes, check the plug to the trans make sure there clean and check where the wiring harness hook  together. could be the computer but i would check out the trans plugs first.

thanks guys and yes it has to be one main problem.

i can seem to find the unplugged trans senor


now it wont barley start

it many not be unplugged could just be diry and not makeing contact. or could be someing elce to.

well i checked the trans pluggs all there and plugged in and i wiggled them start it up ran great drove it down the road went to drive it again and chokes out and stalls etc in drive but its good in neutral and reverse

sounds like your on the right track clean all plugs or at least unplug and plug in a couple times

my xj did that and i found a bad fuesable link that powers the injectors i had power on both sides of the link but there was lots of corroison in the wire and was only like 1 or 2 little strands of wire makeing contact i fixed it and ran like a champ

its passenger side under the hood where all the links are at that i found and when i replaced the one i found more that where getting corroaded (sorry for the bad spelling)

okay ill look into it.


and the plugs on the trans are made in the trans there no actually plugs
