Chevy 366

Thinking of buying a truck that has a 366 in it, I know it is a big block but is it the same type of big block as the 396/454 meaning can I just drop in a 454 with no other mods, direct swap?

and ys itl bolt right up with som  bracket adjusting as stated before.

what will the truck be used for?? if its goin to be a toy hauler may wanna stick with the 366

I agree with post above 366 will spank most 454s when it comes to work as in pulling or towing

Going to be a daily driver occasional off road truck, I know 366 have lots of low end TQ but I want more horse power if I buy this thing, it is slow as a turd.

the 366 is a tall deck motor with 4 bolt mains, just like the tall deck 427's, it has teh same rods as the rest of the big blocks and the same stroke as the 396, 402 and 427, it's just a smaller bore, and as for a dd engine it'll be great so long as you let it breeth, gear it right and you'll never wana change the motor, they were intended to work and pull things and to be used industrially, so they were designed to last too

getting ready to drop one into my truck this winter , not much for hard core mud runnin but ill be runnin mine in and out creeks and through the trail  for huntin and stuff and ill drive it to work

gotta a buddy has one in oil truck and  shifts everytime at round 4500..take it with no prob.

heck if nobody wants them ill take em!!!

a stock 366. has 4 ring pistons. but small bore. but alot of metal between the cylinders.
366The 366 Big block V-8 (6.0 L) gasoline engine was used only in Chevrolet Medium duty trucks and in school buses. It had a bore of 3.935" and a stroke of 3.760". This engine was made from the 1960s until the mid-1990s. The 366 used 3 compression rings on the pistons as it was designed from the very beginning a truck engine. The 366 was only produced as a tall deck engine with a 0.400" taller deck than the 396, 402, & 454 short deck big blocks.

not sure on that  ..but did see when i was lookin info up on mine that u cant bore it to a 427 just a little shy of it.

the 366  is NOT a motor for considering to bore or build ..the price for the work ud have to do u could buy two 454 or what have u

if ya got a good 366 run it, it's a worker and a hauler, not a racer, but it will do it's intended job very very well, and it'll last a long long time that way

Screw that I got a 454 in my moms garage that needs a home...lol I found a pretty nice old chevy for the right price and he has a 366 in it thats why I was wondering if it would be a direct swap, if he still has it this weekend I might go make an offer on it.

yeah it'll be a easy direct swap for the motors as a whole unit..
