So my wife (out of the blue) was offered a job by another place of employment. My wife was working a 3rd shift job that was the only means of us to get by (and we have 3 little kids). My wife and I thought it over and she gave her 2 weeks notice and went for the new job because of new promise. We were scared out of our mind to make this jump but the new job would have made things easier on us. Anyways my wife only worked at this job 4 weeks and then was just told that they have to large a work load (its a small Dr. office) and let my wife and 2 other new hires go. Now we have 0 income and no where to go! My wife cant get her old job back right now so we are SCREWED! we have no savings to get by on. Is their anything we can do since this Dr. knew about our situation and still did this??

WE HAVE FOUR KIDS AND HAVE BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION. I TOO AGREE WITH RANGER DAVE. ALSO, SINCE SHE LEFT ONE JOB FOR A BETTER JOB THEN LOST IT, THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY PROBLEMS WITH AT LEAST GETTING UNEMPLOYMENT. SINCE YOU HAVE THREE LITTLE MOUTHS TO FEED, GO TO THE DHS OFFICE FOR YOUR COUNTY AND SIGN UP FOR FOOD ASSISTANCE. ITS A BIG BITE TO SWALLOW I KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN DOWN THAT ROAD, HOWEVER IT HELPS GET BY AND ASSURES THE LITTLE ONES HAVE FOOD IN THEIR TUMMIES. I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT SUPPORTS MY FAMILY INCLUDING MYSELF TOTAL OF SIX SO IF I DONT WORK WE ARE LIKE YOU,SCREWED. i HATE WHEN THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPENS, IT IS SAD NEWS. YOU ARE NOT ALONE, I BROKE MY WRIST IN APRIL 2009 AND JUST BROKE IT AGAIN IN AUGUST REQUIRING SURGERY.  I WISH Y'ALL THE BEST AND KEEP US UPDATED ON HOW Y'ALL ARE DOING.

DHS is pretty good about food assistance, i get enough to cover a cpl weeks worth of food for 2 ppl.  Even if you dont qualify you are garunteed like $25 a month just for applying lol.

Since she was let go from the 2nd job she is 100% eligible for unemployment and quitting her first job will have no bearing on that matter, make sure she files right away it is all retro active from the time you file to the time you get your first check. Apply for food stamps right now so you can at least eat but they will probably cut them off once she starts receiving unemployment. Both of you start looking for jobs right now they are out there, I just got a new job, I sent 3 resumes and had 2 interviews and landed a job, within 2 weeks the other place that interviewed me offered me a job as well, so I don't want to hear people out there crying how there are no jobs, as far as that goes I have 3 teenagers living in my house and they all found work as well. Bottom line is ya might have to do something you don't want to do just to get ya by and pay the bills, flipping burgers, janitor, news paper route, ect.  You might even have to get 2 part time jobs but they are out there...not sure where you live but if you can travel to Grand Rapids I will give you a job!

Yeah we are already on state food asst. We also have state insurance also. Right now I cant work because I started to develop serious back problems that are really causing more strain on us. Still in the works with doctors and surgeons to see what they can do and if this is going to be a long term problem.  But my wife can still file for unemployment from the dr. office only after being there 4 weeks? I didnt know that.  And thanks disturban but im in Davison. Your way to far from me lol.

She would have had to have worked one complete quarter (3months) and then had earnings in a second quarter that total 1/2 of what she earned in the first quarter in order to qualify for unemployment, if she only worked a total of 4 weeks in the last year she wont have enough time/income to qualify. Did she work any other jobs in the last year? If so then for sure apply, the worse they can say is she don't qualify.

if an employer hires you knowing you are working some where else they assume the unemployment liabilty from first employer @ least thats how it was 10 years ago

her unemployment will be paid for by the last company, but it will be covered as long as she was at the previous job for however many weeks it takes to qualify.
