I think I bent the rear drive shaft of my jeep, would it be ok to remove the drive shaft and put it in 4 hi and use it as a front wheel drive until I get the drive shaft taken care of? one of my co-workers did that with his Ranger, then again he really didn't care much about it...

borrowing a tiny car right now and I keep banging my head getting in and out so the sooner I can use my Jeep the better...

You'll be fine as long as its not a slip yoke output.

dsJeep

I think the rear is a slip yoke, stock np231c

I did it with my ram and it was ok.. only problem was couldnt go over 45 without it shaking real bad and it had auto lockouts so whenever i let off the gas they would kick out... ==doh that month sucked haha.

You'll lose all your fluid if its a slip.

ToughBowtieTruck

Did it with my crew cab dually for 2 days!! Kids in high school thought front-wheel burnouts on a pickup was the greatest thing ha ha ha ha

And I didn't notice a fuel consumption difference either, can you say 454? lol

Chevy Racer

Knuckle joints don't like it but I had to do that for a month before in my old truck.  Front wheel burn outs can hurt if the torque steer is bad enough.  LOL

Automatic locking hubs dont disenguage by letting off the gas, they are mechanical and only lock in when the T-case is enguaged.  They can unlock, relock when shifting from D to R.

pop bottle would work, but remember. that ATF might (loosen) that duck tape, and cause it to fall off.................the only time I would do somthing like that.............is to Limp a 4x4 home because of a broken component...................not as a bandaid to drive it everyday till it gets fixed.

I think I'm just gonna wait until Tuesday to pull it then...

I see a slip yoke eliminator in the near future though, pop bottle and duct tape don't sound like much fun :P

i'm with matt on this one, not a good idea to try and drive it like that

I'm aware of that matt... or else 4wd wouldnt work in reverse... the part of that story that was missing is my lockouts were junk.. and would disengage in reverse LOL. Ended up putting some spicers on it before i hauled it in the junkyard... ==doh still cant believe i forgot to pull them off of it.

I did for a while ... had to put lockouts in it... new u joints... ended up burnin the 318 up... put in a 360 ... found out i had the wrong torque convertor.... shook like hell.... traded it in at the junkyard for the 97 dakota i had... blew the tcase out of that... sold it.... ==roll

Yea the sonoma's the good one. Long as i keep spare trannys around it keeps rollin.
