Why do we need to get rid of all of our knives (pocket knives are included), wepons (guns, bow and arows all of that such)  so that my brother can come home out of van buren county jail. He was arrested by a sherriff within one mile of allegan county and sent to van buren county jail. He was arrested for dugs. The  .23 grmas of marijuana was droped and the .06 grams of meth was not. Therefore why do we need to get rid of all of our wepons.
Can they take our guns due to a felony of a neither person that lives in our home. He lives in our basement. The landlord lives in the first floor. We rent the up stairs. all knives, and wepons have to be off the premisis until he is off his probation.

from what i have read on this if he is living there and they come out to do a follow up and they think there may be weapons in the house they can seize them and he will have to go back for probahtion violation. now if the house is set up as three different appartments where he has his own entrance from the out side of the home i do not belive they can make you remove your stuff as he is renting what is considered a appartment. The best thing i would say to save yourself the headace is to check with the probahtion office in your township

then they do not classify that as an appartment and the weapons would have to be removed from the house even though it is a multi story home that is being rented. as J.C said contact a lawyer for a free consult or the probahtion office they will be able to tell you. but from what i do know the weapons would have to be removed.

my understanding is that as long as he dont own or possess the wepons you should be ok, because my brother was on probation and i owned a gun in the same place

all guns must go or they can take them and not give them back.....  its just a stupid all rule...  everyone I know who has been on probation had to have all guns removed but pocket knifes and razor knifes were ok... but none were felons.....  I would do what ever the law says! lol

A friend of mine went jail and by time he was released to live back at home w his dad. His dad had to put all his weapons away and keep in mind he is a hunter big time so he got alot of guns n bows n arrows that he had to move them to his buddy s place so his son could come home

Pretty bad when they make you get rid of your weapons in any situation. The only way to know for sure is to go talk to a lawyer who deals with that kind of stuff.



hypothetically: What if someone comes looking for him? there is you and your family defenseless.

I'd say if I had someone coming to live with me who had a rough history (especially drugs) I'd want protection from anyone who might not be the person's biggest fan...

get your cpl and always have your gun on you. there is no way they can claim its within his reach
other than that. felons give up the right to everything. harboring a felon legal or not pretty much
makes you live by "felon" rules.

i agree, but in letting him live with you, the terms of his probation apply to the home. if he cannot live in a home with guns you have to abide by that if you allow him to live with you.

in my experiences with family and drugs i wouldn't let him stay at my house...i have to give up my rights and as soon as the pecker head got a chance he was stealing from me...family is great and all...but be careful

If he rents the basemanet the only way you could keep all your guns is if there was a seperate postal code for the basement and where the guns are located. Example: 526 12th Ave apt. 1 or something like that.
Had this issue before with some family members.

You might. Be able to keep them in a gun safe that is in a locked bed room.

the kids soon to be father n law came home to like with he's son and they had to get rid of all wepons even the toy gun hanging on the wall that was part of a Scarface picture...a toy gun really framed n hooked to the wall lol his PO said it had to go
