how hard is it and what kind of parts do i all need to change a 96 chevy from a 4l60e to a 700r4

You would need a pcm for a stick shift i would think. And some way to get a kick down cable rigged to downshift it

ToughBowtieTruck

Not worth the effort. Each trans is calibrated for the truck it's in. Why go backwards in technology? The 4L60-E is better stock-to stock, as well when beefed up . . .

it's not hard just a throttle bracket for the detent cable and something to take care of the computer for the motor.. baseically the same trans, just one is mechanical and one is electric

could be upgrading to carb??

more of a downgrade if you have EFI already... in my opinion

Not only is it fuel injection, but 96 is Vortec fuel injection . . . be a huge and time-consuming downgrade.

that's a matte rof opinion as jc said.. i'd much rather have a big 4 bbl that efi...

efi can only handle so much motor so it is a matter of opinion

EFI can do whatever you want, if you have cash. That's the only factor. Same with carb, we could assume a stock or 600 cfm carb, or a huge Holley/Demon setup . . .

In the end it depends on what he wants to do with the truck, and how much money he has to spend. Primarily, though, his post is about the transmission swap.  ++peace

i put a 700 in my 93 truck that had a 4l60  in it   i used the kickdown bracket of the car the trans came from this one has the electric speedo in it and ya have to buy a controller from b/m or similar  i never bought one and been drivin it with no lockup or speedometor    i wish i would have had the 4l60 rebuilt  then everything would work  but at the time i had 1 day to change it out and get back to work so that was my option      is the truck 2wd or 4 ????   and yua never said the reason for changin it????
