dont ya lose the torque multiplication that the convertor gives ya atleast thats what ive been told  i was lookin at duing that with the powerglide im going to put in my truck  it does reduce rotating mass on the engine wich  == more hp    but you also have to make alot of other modifications to the trans to make it direct drive

BigFrank

there is also a flange thing ya can get that bolts to the crank and runs the pump in trans whats on the summit page is for guys running in a track where the rules state it has to have a convertor but  no spec on being functional

burl

Yep we were talkin powerglide with 2 gears 1 forward and 1 reverse put it in gear and stab the throttle, its like dumping the clutch

i have two direct drive setups out of my openwheeled car.

very hard on the driveline. if the tires wont spin you WILL stall the engine. my power glydes are setup with a clutch pedal to divert line pressure and slip the trans a little
'to get it into gear but your still moving as soon as its dropped into gear and moving fast.

i considered dropping one in a truck. with the mod we were running a 6.20 rear gear and a 29 inch rear tire.
it had to be pushed around parking lots and winched or pushed onto the trailer. just couldnt go slow enough,

Yeah dad was talkin about his racing days lol usung implament valves to divert the pressure, in a truck it can be done, I was think somthings with high hp and cut 33 boggers, I don't want big I just want badasss, fast and light   lol
