i came across a low mile  duramax engine out of a 05 truck wreck  what would i have to do to lose all  the computer stuff and make it work in a 83 truck ???  and does the bellhousing/engine block bolt up to the old style chevy  trans ??  how would this engine compare to a 6.2  deisel ?

Crazymays77

screw that lets put it in my gmc

Duramax is Direct injection, 6.5/6.2  is indirect injection. The Duramax has to have its entire harness and computer system with trans to run, otherwise it will get VERY expensive trying to make it mechanical injection, as it is a common rail electric injection.

6.5 can be mechanical injection and almost bolt in directly, where as the Duramax will be a time consuming process to get it swapped in and running right.

Transmissions are not quite the same, either.

be better off getting the engine and trans, harness and computer and just putting it all in ur old truck. vs trying to convert the duramax

BigFrank

engine only wires are allcut off    truck is gone along with trans    looking into it seem s more work   err  money buying parts  than itd bee worth

What do you want for it?  :-)
In need of a yank strap?  PM me... I have 'em!

dont think it would be possible to run it making it mechanical. as far as putting it in that it would take alot of money. one of my college instructors got a 1998 dodge ram 2500 with a v10 in it and swaped it and put a 2006 common rail 5.9l cummins in it and he actually had to contact cummins and have them make a ECM for it. cost him alot of money to build it but it sure is a nice truck. if money is not an issue then go for it but if your limited i think you might want to look into some different options

BigFrank

still looking into it came up with a few options  but still unshure what path to take  ??? ??? ???

Blazin40s

87 K5 Blazer, 42 TSL's, 355ci, TH400/208, D60/14ff

Bigolcummins

agree put a 12 valve cummins in it lol

ToughBowtieTruck

Cummis is the Small Block Chevy of the diesel world. No creativity, everyone has one in a custom swap, yada yada. BORING!

Screamin' 2 Stroke Detroit Diesel on the other hand, we'll talk ;D

BigFrank

thata what i was thinking also about a cummins  id have a bunch of $$$ wrapped up into it also and have to change the trans  ?  the  4v53 4cyl detroit is what powers our trenchers and stone wagon we use on the highway there super simple  and very powerfull  i know where there is a 6v53 sitting about 5 miles away came from a chevy c 60 and has a gm  trans behind it   now were gettin somewhere  im gonna go talkto him tommorow and do some measuring      if i could have gotten the wiring from the d max truck id deffinetly go that way

BigFrank

this one is a j26 ours that i run is a j36  a little bigger but ya get the idea

Bigolcummins

6v53 would be cool just be warned its not very reliable at all i have an instructor at my school who has one and he has to fix it all the time. i dont wanna hurt any detroit peoples feelings, and i definitly dont want to start a war but i always say a 6v53 or a 6v92 are good for nothing but blowing smoke and making noise, which to some people thats all they want lol

BigFrank

thats mostly why id want one  noise and smoke   the one in our trencher 4v53  i run slap azz wide open all day long  never misses a beat

x2 Detroits ran the diesel world. Trucks, equipment, boats, etc etc. Cummins didn't hold a candle to Detroits until emissions killed 'em. One instructor's poor luck with them isn't much to make a bad remark about Detroits . . .

And after that, the Detroit Series 60 heavy truck engine became the first fully-electronic heavy truck engine and proved extremely successful with it!

ya just like any typical two stroke lol, and i agree the series 60 detroit is a damn good engine. Whatever you do if you do if you go with a two stroke diesel make sure you slam your hand in the door to get angry before ya drive it lol

ToughBowtieTruck

And keep a big block of wood ready to block off the air intake if you have a runaway. Had a 4-53 run away on us in our front end loader. Scariest engines you ever heard.
