OHEARN.2012

I recently bought a Dana 44 high pinion for my sas on my 1994 Chevy.. at this point in time I am confused on what it actually came out of. It is a 8 lug axle so I know its 3/4 ton and its HP but I knew that Ford on there Dana 44s the driver side leaf spring perch was cast into the actual differential housing. But on this one it has what looks to be aftermarket type leaf perches but I could be wrong they just don't look like factory welds.. also I've never seen on any axles it had a factory hole on the top of the diff where a bolt held down a brake line proportioning valve. And the brakes are held on by caliper bolts not the wedge style mounts. Just trying to figure out what it is so I can find parts for it. And I do believe it said 77 on ring gear.. Idk someone help me out lol

Don't sound factory IMO. Coulda possibly been converted to chevy brakes somewheres along the lines. I know mine had a wedge style and the bolt hole ain't factory either....

What side is the pumpkin on?? driver side or pass............drive side is FORD, Passenger side could be mid 1977-up Chevy, or 1980-up Dodge.

Actually there should be a serial number stamped on the tube (long side near housing).........if its still there, that would tell if it is a GM dana 44 or not.

Also by mid 1977 GM went to the smaller internal locking hub for its 3/4 tons...........and its the same as 1/2 ton.

Ford did the same thing in mid 1970's, going from the large external spicer hub to the smaller internal 1/2 ton hub for its 3/4 tons.

It is a driver side diff.. has smaller locking hubs. But I never seen a Ford axle that had calipers held on by pins instead of being wedged in ???

im pretty sure those are chevy knuckles on there.... ford never had a flat top knuckle on the pass side that ive ever known of. and those perches aint factory either. have ya measured the spring perch width at all? that bolt on the top almost looks like where they bolted the brake line t-bracket on like the rear axles have. was this in somebodys mud truck or somethin somewhewres along the line ???

it dont take much to swap knuckles on them, just unbolting the ball joints ans swapping knuckles, all the dimmensions are the same

thats what i figured. you can still do that setup if you want to or hang the lines like factory does. either way works. and it looks like ur spring perches were indexed a few degrees to help with pinion angle too

coulda been an axle outta like a 78-79 bronco that had welded on arms

really cause my ford 44 has flat top knuckles. Its a ford 44 that someone moved the right side perch to fit their vehicle. And that bracket is a crossover steering bracket

My 79 Dana 44 has the same lock outs but my petrch is cast in to the pig? My brakes bolt on just like that but mine are 2 piston brakes I can get some pics of mine if you want

4x4xdodgeman

on dana 44 all have to do change from the ball joint out on the axle. and that is what some body did on that axle. (chevy)

OHEARN.2012

Yea mike come over I think it is a f150 axle that had radius arms
Might have to cut off perches and turn the pinion angle down some too
