TITLE JUMPING QUESTION!

I have a question on a title to a vehicle that I just bought. The problem I am having is that the title is a jumped title originally from Mississippi. Here is what I have gathered......the original owner who lived in Mississippi signed off on the title to a guy here in Michigan who has his name written on the title but never transferred it into his name. He then had some body work done on a pickup and gave the guy the van for the work that he had done., he then sold it to me. I had already checked the VIN and it is not stolen nor been scrapped. It IS a clear title. If I wasn't in dire need of a vehicle I would have passed, BUT, I got a great deal for the shape. Has anyone ran into this problem, and what do I need to do to register it in Michigan. All people involved in this title barely speak English (guess I should have paid more attention in Spanish class,LOL) So it is hard trying to get my point across of the issue.

shouldnt be a issue ive done it before and no problems if the titles signed off  dont worry about or invole anyone else   you bought it    you have the title    make a receipt from the person who signed the title only if sos asks for one   but it might take a couple trys to get the right person to be on the other side of the counter also    ive done this a couple times    ==np

hopefully I get lucky, I somehow always seem to get the one that seems like she hates her life,job,world.....if I new someone that worked for SOS, that might make thing go a little smoother.

That just might work!!! I am starting to feel like I am on my own mission to get this thing legal. Instead of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, mine is MISSION IS HOPEFULLY POSSIBLE. Have to add the music too for the right feel. loll

happens quite a bit. Uncle gets cars from the auction that dont have a title at all as long as they are not reported stolen or have a lean you should have no problem.

Well, It did not work. SOS told me I have to purchase a Vehicle Uniform Surety Bond. The lady told me I have to go through an insurance company but I yet have to find one that does it. This SUCKS!!!!!

Weird... maybe u got the wrong lady lol. Last time I tried they just wanted to send a cop out to run the vin and fill out a paper. ==dunno

A lot has apparently changed. One issue was that SOS can no longer look up out of state VIN numbers. If it had been registered in Michigan, she could look it up to make sure it was good and so on. They don't send cops out to check VIN's anymore either, it is easier now. SOOOOO, after some thought, I  now, I think I just lost the title, so I gotta go to a different SOS than I went to yesterday, and fill out the slip for a LOST title.   ;)   ;D                   ==idk  where  or when I lost it Miss SOS lady.

UPDATE!!!! none of the above worked. Called around to find an insurance company to do a Vehicle Surety Bond and I came up with a few from out of state and finally found some in Michigan but they wanted me to fax or mail the paper, then after they received it and set up the bond, they wanted me to send them the $100, I was looking at anywhere from a week to a month to get the bond. I went to Greenville yesterday cause there was an insurance company that I had called to check into it and never heard back from them. I figured I would get an answer by walking in. I get out of the car and to my right was State Farm Insurance. I though, why not just ask, SOOOOO.....I walk in and they tell me that they had done their first surety bond in 30 years just 2 weeks ago. After a couple phone calls and 20 min. later, I paid $51 and was on my way to SOS with the bond in my hand. Got to SOS and had to fill out 2 small papers and then FINALLY, was able to get the van legal. Next time before I buy a vehicle, I am going to tell the person I want to see the title before I give them any money.

yeah that sucks. if it would have been titled in Michigan, I would not have had to jump through so many hoops. But since it was titled in Mississippi and I was the third person that got it with none of the others registering it, it was a nightmare for me.
