winch cables

i was gonna cut up some jumper cables which is 8 gauges    will they be fine?

depends on what size the winch is, If its an old pair of jumpers then just cut em and try it out with a load on the winch and see if they get hot,  I know most jumper cables are made of a bunch of the small this copper wire where as some thing like the winch cable is a bunch of thick copper wire.   

You could always go to a junk yard or find some old battery cables, and use them, that would be the best way to go imo

Mine is 4 or 6 gauge. Biggest booster cable set Walmart has. Put terminal ends on one side and quick-connects on the other to the winch. Works awesome with my 10,000lb winch. The storage bag is now used for my tow strap as well.

ok after my comalong pissed me off after struggling to get a wrecked truck for parts  i decided i m gonna get wires for my winch....  so i m gonna get some cables from walmart n cut em up    but where do i get quick disconnects at? and butt ends with hole for batteries or at the winch?

I got my quick connects at Napa. 35 bucks or so. Supposed to be able to solder the ends on but I just put them in a vise and "crimped" them together. They're blue in color.

As far as the battery ends you can leave the booster clamps on it if you will just use a remote battery, or just get those clamp-on terminal end replacements.

I can get a pic of my setup tomorrow and show ya . . .

that ll be cool   i do plan keep one side as booster clamp , and other set where i can set it front of a truck and not using a booster clamps.   pic will help thanks   and u re saying 35 bucks for  both end   female n male? kinda?

35 or so bucks for 2 connectors, allows one connection to be made. I originally had my booster cable set on a truck to run the winch (I have it on a 2" receiver mount) but since sold it and just tote a battery around now when I use the winch on the trailer. I welded a 2" receiver on the trailer so setting the winch up is as fast as putting a trailer hitch in a receiver.

thats my plan i m gonna mount or weld a 2 in receiver on my trailer so i can use my winch/cradle on the trailer

Here's my pics. Love my Harbor Freight winch. Can't beat a 5 ton winch with receiver mount for $350. ;D

thats pretty much what i have too ... the control box aint mounted on my cradle but how did u ?

My winch came with the mount. Two bolts to bolt the mount to the side of the winch, and a big zip tie to hold it on the other end. That's all it is.
