who runs E85?

goin to run E85 in are mud truck....just wondering if anyone else run it and if they do, do they like it or know any sercrets about it

all i know is the e85 motors seem to be really picky about the spark plugs heat range. uncles truck runs on e85 and when he got plugs the store messed up and gave him a plug one step colder and the truck would barely run

my surburban can run on e85, but I have only had trouble running it, It runs like crap, misfiring from hell and massive loss in power, like when you overheat kind of loss in power, I dont run it straight anymore if I do run it, I mix it around 50/50 with gas, and havent had anymore problems, but the only real thing appealing to me about e85 is that its so much cheaper than gas, If you know of a way to get good power running it, please share

vehicles like that take time to adapt to running a different fuel from what i have heard, i owned a 2010 mercury grand marquis and it was flex fuel so it could run either or, thing was if you ran gas for a few tanks that just ran e85 once, it ran like crap for the first tank or so, pretty much the motor is relearning about the system, thats how the fords are anyway, i kept running it for a few tanks . could be off on the GM's but i cant see it being that far off.

ive run it for two years now send your carb out to have it converted to e-85 and dont let it sit for more than a couple weeks without running it or it will corrode the inside of your carb and taking it off and cleaning all the time gets old fast

Don't quote me but I believe you can either buy a special cabruator or send your existing carb in to get work done to make it compatible for E85 also you need a special fuel pump for it, I would ask hot rod heap he runs E85 in his big block bogger he should know what you are asking

you can also contact Shelton performance they have a old buick coupe that is street leagal drag car that runs E-85 with a blower.

Yaa we bought a carb kit for are quick fuel carb and yes i will try and get ahold that guy

Thought about switching to it, in the long run its cheaper than racefuel and its got a higher octane rating than 110 so u can run it in high compression engines

does any one know what the octane rating is??? im running 14.5:1 compression and if my math is right I should be running around 114 octane   but I get away with 110...  but I might consider running it on my mudder now that ive spent quite a few sleepless nights researching it.... I do know mpg go down, but is it worth it vs. the price per gallon? thanks

e85 is 106 octane it can run higher compression because the alchohol in it has more of a cooling effect than gas. pluss 30 % more fuel helps keep the detonation down 14.5:1 comp might be a bit high unless you have a huge cam to bleed off some of the compresson. You could prob get it to run right with enough tuning.

I can Easily adjust my CR cuz im i got a blower on it, but what CR do you think it should be at idk just still throwing around the thought lol

from what i heard on the octane is that what you get at the local pump can vary from 100 octane up to 106 octane. there is a place in corruna i believe that makes it and you can order drums from there so you know you will have the same octane

E85 does not burn as efficiently as gasoline. It's cheaper, but you burn more fuel.  I hate running it in my Sierra, I run regular instead

Edit, it may be worth it for the octane, next time I'll read the whole thread first

e85 has a sweet spot off 172 deg or hoter the carbs for e85 ar a cross between gas and alk
