so i have questions about taking the motor and wiring harness, computer, etc... and making it run in a jeep. the jeep is set up for a sbc. mainly i dont know how the ignition will work with a push button... i guess i dont really know how this is going to work...

ANY INPUT is greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!!!

i will post pics and progress as this unfolds!

just take it all out and put it in the jeep the same way... only thin you have to hook the push button to is the solenoid on the starter... wont effect anything else..

Its no big deal, youll see how its all in a big wad all together, just dont cut any wires, take your time ;D

picture.
so i have the harness out of the donor vehicle and the motor sitting in the jeep.
i have a large cluster of wires that is kinda intimidating... to say the least...
questions:
1. there is a diamond shaped thing bolted on the firewall, what is it and do i need it. it has 2 red wires going to it.
2 what about the steering column wires,
3. do i need the fuseblock?

i have removed all wires including under the dash, fuse block, etc... can i remove some wires, shorten wires, or do i need the huge cluster and all its mess to run the motor?

Hard to explain. Probably don't want to shorten wires messes with resistances n crap the computer its programed for.  I might beable to swing by sometime and explain it better. If ya want shoot me a text 989 873 7619

1. Yes
2. Yes -some

your going to need all the sensors and wires to those sensors hooked up to the computer for it to run, minus the o2 sensor, if your going to have aftermarket gauges like oil psi and coolant temp. you need to put in T so you can have those gauges and the sensors hooked up. As for the fuse box, I would definitely recommend you have it in there, fuses are there for a reason..... if something shorts, it pops the fuse, not melt the wires and possible catch a fire. Its 10000x easier to track a shorted wire that keeps popping a fuse compared to one that has melted 15 other wires with it. As for the steering column wires, unless your going to be using the key switch, blinker switch, etc. then you need none of them wires. you will however need to wire up a switch like a toggle to turn everything on. For the push button start, run your hot wire off an ignition wire, either fuse block or the hot ign. wire that goes up steering column to key switch, to your button, then on other side of button tap into starter solinoid wire, if its a chevy wire harness, the stock solinoid wire is a dark purple, also you can tap into this wire in the harness in the column also.  And for everyone reading lol yes thats technically how to hot wire a gm tbi vehicle.   Ohh and the diamond shaped thing that bolts to the fire wall, you need that, it is a power junction box, and like a fuse link, if to much power is sent thru it or if its drawing to puch power, the little brass strip that connects the 2 leads breaks and you get power to nothing lol you could bypass it but not worth the trouble. and again the safety factor.

I too live close to flushing, if ya want I could also swing by whenever and help ya out, I know just about everything about gm tbi systems, figuring out what plug goes to what sensor can be a big pita, unless you labeled it. any other questions just ask, if ya cant figure out where a sensor goes post a pic or text it to me and I can tell ya. 810-936-1682 kevin :)

ok so i have got the harness in. i also have the starter hooked to a push button. my question is. what wire will power the fuse panel? if that makes sense. i have power to the ignition. but the fuel pump dosent work. i also cant figure out the lights for brakes... if anybody is out in the flushing area and ya wanna throw some knowledge my way let me know
oh yea this a complete harness from a 87 chevy. i have spliced into the blue plug for power. it is a red wire, purple, pink, and black. is this the right set of wires... if i could find a schematic i could figure it out. but i cant find one...

do i have to run a jumper wire somewhere? here is what i have done so far.
i have hooked up a push button switch. there is a toggle to turn it on and i also have a battery interrupt switch. all of that works... but am i missing something. the only things i am using are the fuel pump, and computer. the computer has power to it, why don't i have power to the fuel pump, coil, distributor, etc... i also would like to wire the lights for the brake light to work. electrical troubleshooting has been a certain downfall....... Hmmm did i just say shooting... i could take it to the back 40 and shoot it............ lol ljavascript:void(0);

are you getting power to the fuse block? sounds like it if you get power on ign. there must be a wire left off somewhere or check fuses, ecm fuse, ign fuse and such those can cause no power coil, pump, etc.  its hard to tell as im not looking at it lol Its probably sumthing stupid lol I know wiring is a real PITA  loll

for brake light all you need is a brake light switch on the pedal and run a power wire on one side and then the wire to the lights on the other side

the fuse block has power. but only the left side has power. the right side dosent. (thats if you are looking at it from the front of the vehicle) the right side is the fuel pump and trailer light harness. do i have to jump 2 wires together... is there an incoming for power and an outgoing from the fuse block???

Did you take the main power strip from the donor vehicle's firewall? It wouldve been located just above the heater hoses, it feeds a bunch of stuff ;D

yes i did... i figured it out. all of my fuse panel is working... talk about spaghetti for dinner...LOL>>> yes i have a mess of wires, but i figured out i need to jump some wires to make it all work because i am not using the steering column from the donor..it needed to think that when i flip my switches the power comes on...duhhh simple yet complicated...
