Pro for stick... capable of being faster, capable of getting better fuel economy... one clutch disk, less likley to leave you stranded...

Con for stick, gets stuck easy between gears, the smell of burning clutch when navigating a trailer, harder on tires at corners... probably more tickets.

Pro for auto... dont have to shift... less loss of momentum in mud.

con for auto... boring.. when they go they go and you are sitting there... holds RPM's forever between gears... alot more to go wrong with them period.

personally I prefer the control with a stick, especially in the winter time when its bad out, start out in second and you can use the transmission to assist in braking...

though I would have to say an auto is a little better when mudding, you can focus on what you're doing instead of shifting...

betterbeaters

pro sticks fun to shift con sticks dont like shifting in mud and can be more of a pain with a trailer
pro autos can be made to shift manual and work better than a stick also you can shift a auto WAY FASTER THAN A STICK  con autos dont like swimming if the vent goes underwater lol

I have had a few stick trucks but I would never trade my auto for one in a play truck they just work better imo

I got an auto and its full auto.... all I have to do is flip a switch and its in what gear I want I alos can lock up torque converter when I want so no slipage.....another flip of a switch and it drives like a stock auto :)   Its nice to have best of both worlds lol   only con of any auto is if your bat dies you cant push jump the truck to start it
*Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone **** your wife and being proud to raise their kids.*

yes if you put work into a automatic it can match a stick in some situations.
What I said up there was if you are just talking stock auto vs stock manual.

you really need the pro's and con's? does it matter? if you find a deal on something are you going to turn it down, because someone listed con's? c'mon big red...

You can always swap out that auto/stick for another tranny..

heh, forgot to mention autos don't like being underwater, don't drive them enough to think about it, if given the choice I'll go with a stick...

Comprimise.       Put a full manual valve body in an auto. It's a manual with no clutch. Lol.

orrrr put a clutch pedal on your automatic.. dump the main line pressure. Then when you let the clutch out it applys the pressure and away you go! ==roll

79K1500

A manual can't shift as fast but like better for trails and loads (hauling)...way more fun

Auto can bang threw the gears, but does rob a little power to the wheels...easy to drive
Run it, brake it, fix it, repeat!

They dont work for me. They always hold 6 grand for about 5-10 seconds between gears ==roll

sticks are more fun sometimes but when you get in deep mud its about impossible to keep the mud out of the clutch and pressure plates. plus them damn sm465's you cant speed shift em or bang the gears. autos are better i think because you can still manuall shift em and when you add a hefty stahl converter they will let you take off just like a stick. only thing i dont like about autos is ocasional leaks from tranny lines or main seal.
She said the sound of that truck just turns her on

Plop

Sticks seem to give less problems. I stay away from auto because they like to die on me and theyre heavy so swapping is a little harder

ive really had no problem banging through the gears on my dually. maybe i'm lucky?

anyway, i think most of the obvious has been stated, id personally go for a manual over an auto if i could find it anyday, easier to work on, less to break, more control. off road sticks are kind of iffy, but ive always loved my manual trucks off road. not to mention, for a pavement pounder, its just way more fun to have a stick. enough said. lol
