NEW YORK (WNEM+AP) -
Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young has been arrested as the Tigers start a three-game series in New York City against the Yankees.

Young was arrested early Friday morning in what's being described as an alleged assault of a man outside of a Midtown hotel.

Sources said police were called to the hotel around 2:40 a.m. According to WZZM 13, Young faces an "aggravated harassment hate crime" charge after making what a New York detective said was anti-Semitic remarks. WZZM reports the charge is a misdemeanor.

The Tigers have not commented yet on the situation, but a statement was forthcoming.

In 2005, while playing for the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits, Young received a three-game suspension for bumping an umpire.

In 2006, while playing for the Triple-A Durham Bulls, Young threw his bat at the umpire after being called out on strikes.

He was suspended for 50 games, without pay for that incident.

We'll continue to follow this story and have updates as information becomes available.
