i have a holley blue fuel pump on my mud truck and ive had no issues with it up until now. the other night we were tuning my carb in and noticed my fuel pressure was dropping to zero. i figured it was my gauge cuz it hasnt worked right since i took my brother in laws off it atleast i thought it wasnt working right. well we put his on and after about 10 mins of running it did the same thing. well today i made an inline fuel pressure gauge to go between the pump and my regulator. i also rigged up a return line to work on my regulator since this is deadhead regulator i got. everything was working the way it should and it was keeping the right fuel pressure to the carb . about 10-15 min into it running the pressure gauge between the pump and regulator dropped to zero. i shut the truck off and turned the key forward and had nothing from the pump, but a few mins later the pump would kick back on and work fine for another 10-15 min.

has anyone had a problem like this before with this same style pump? i figured the pump is pretty much junk now and going ot need to buy a new one, but im wondering what i should go with this time for the truck?

thanks for any help/info

i did and they were no help. all they said was sounds like you have a problem with the electric motor.

Sounds like its gettin hot and seizin up to me, when it cools off itll go again till it gets hot again. That means its shot, the motor in the pump is no good. Its not brand new or somethin, is it? How long has it been on there?

The Holley Blue pump produces 14 lbs of pressure, thats too much for a carb no matter how big the carb may be. You need the RED pump, 7 PSI on it. Your pump failed prematurely because it was fighting the needle and seat most of the time which made it get hot, instead of the fuel flowing freely through it. Holley is a good product.

i had the pump probably a few years but the truck doesnt get ran very often. just odd the pump would go bad that quick on sometihng that only gets ran a few times a year.

thats are just the rotor and vane kit and there is nothing wrong with the ones in my pump. i tore the bottom off today and checked all that out.

Check the screen inside the fuel pump
I had the full size thing it just bored me!!!

The only people you need in your life are the ones who prove they need you in theirs

Its all fun and games till someone gets knocked up, down or out

the screen is fine. pretty sure old school truck dude is right. pump gets a little to warm from running and just shuts off and once it cools a little bit it works again for a few.

well i think i might of gotten lucky. i tore the pump apart again today but instead of just doing the bottom like i did yesterday i pulled the motor itself apart. it had a little bit of black crap in it but nothing looked bad. i cleaned it out with some cleaner tossed it back together and its been running good since. the truck sat idling for almost an hr total (about 20 mins at a time) and it never lost fuel pressure. also ran it up and down the road and still never quit on me.

so hopefully that took care of my problem and it will last a little longer
