orv trails/routes question

ok so im trying to plan out this trip for our jeep trail ride for our club. looking on the dnr website they have all the maps there. but question is some orv routes seem to just dead end in the middle of no where and or on an atv trail. and i know specific trails are designated for certain things.so do atvs and orvs ever share the trails or are they specificaly designated. we are looking to run in the roscommon/st helen/houghton lake area. does anyone from that are know of some good trails up there. im looking at the danton creek route.but would like a mixture of easy trails to moderate trails. Any suggestions?

i thought most orv trails were 49" and narrow    like a razor or rino  was to big  ?

I know tons of orv routes and trails really good for jeeps up there. My cabin is in st helen I've been riding that area for 6 yrs now. Pm me I can give u some info on some good trails

There are usually more orv routes in areas that the dnr doesn't put on the maps

all signed  and designated orv  truck routes, are on the maps. If you have a license plate on your vehicle, you can be on most 2 track trails. In the st helen area, there is some 2 tracks that ARE closed.  All orv quad and motor cycle trails are 48" and narrower.(there are some trails that are motorcycle only, and are 24 inch wide)..

that will get you every trail map in the state.

  I also recommend, that if you are going to camp over night, go to the ambrose lake camp ground. nice clean camp ground, beach to swim at, toilets,camp fire rings,picnic tables, and a well for water. Heck  even a boat launch..lol..     cost is  $17 a nite..

Remember, trail riding on power lines is a BIG fine if you get caught.( unless it is signed as open).


  I also recommend coming up a couple of weeks ahead of time and checking things out.Alot of trail rides get ruined by getting lost.

Also, contact the local DNR and ask them if you can get any updated maps. You would be amazed how helpful they can be. Just don;t mention what weekend you wanna be riding around..lol
 

The St Helen motorsports area, has some nice hills, alittle bit of mud, and of course. The rock courses.

U can't just go anywhere either u must stay on the right trail for what ur riding in DNR can get u for that its an easy pop for them and u better not have thick chunks of mud on your hood or they will know u have been somewhere u shouldn't be

I was told by a DNR officer that as long as your vehical is plated by the SOS you don't need an orv sticker. The sticker is only for things that ain't plateed by them.

Heard that too. Seems odd to me that you just need a plate but I personally still like havin a ORV sticker.

Need a orv stickers for the mounds, silver lake, st helen motorsports park and atleast bull gap ( when we could still play there).. Most orv parks (state owned) require stickers.  And remember when talking to a DNR officer, his interpitation of the law, may be different from the next ones. So better safe then sorry.    Oh yeah, i forgot.. you also need a orv sticker if you are going to take a vehicle out on the ice when you go ice fishing...lol

I talked to the DNR about this last year as it is not clearly said on their website, but if you are to be driving any vehicle, quad, bike whatever, on any state land that is not an established road, parking lot, or state park like in the campground, then you must have an orv sticker.

Also you can go on any clearly marked trail no matter what you are driving, unless it is marked atv/cycle only. when I am in an area Im not to familiar with I stay to the trails, Don't go down a path that looks like some did a few times or has not in a while, DNR will rape you real good if you are going off the trails and the excuse that it looked like some one else has will not work

DNR got me in the UP cuz I went maybe 100ft off our personal property on the quad without an orv sticker, and all I was doing was hauling the canoe to the lake to go fishing

That's funny a couple years back a dnr officer told me that orv sticker isn't gonna get u any brownie points on trails its only good for parks like the mounds and silver lake he said that orv sticker isn't gonna get me out of anything. He was a dick and I was being very co opertaive and polite with him. I was only on a regular dirt road right by some illegal trails wasn't even wheeling and he gave me tons of crap about it
