120/240 means it can be wired either way depending on how many hots you use. 240 = 2 hots, 120 = 1 hot. Its not that complicated, just think of it like truck electric, its just AC instead of DC but it still works the same.

true  but since its on a jenny and being the same plug, I would imagine it would have a switch, I couldn't see someone making a generator that you would have to rewire the plug every time you would want to change from 120 to 240??

It should be labeled on the jenny. Im just sayin be careful and look at things closely.

looks like working fine now one more thing i wanna use my big air compressor as well and it has black yellow and green wires    so would u say the black and yellow is the "hot" wire and green will be the netural   ?

yes, on 240v  green is always ground, black and yellow are the 2 hot wires. good to hear you got the hoist going :)

Yes but it is "directional" because the motor is designed to turn in only one direction. Hook it up but look to see if its runnin backwards. If it is, swap the yellow and black with each other.

Directional is only on 3 phase. So u r fine.

If it bulids air pressure, then all is good ==roll

Crazymays77

there might be an arrow on the pulley maybe. but it should only spin one way anyways. im pretty sure you cant wire it backwards since you only have 220 single phase. 3 phase you cant i know that.

xjs3667

no you can not wire it backwards...... its AC current....... if you hook DC current backwards it would spin motor backwards

Actually, it CAN be hooked up backwards. In the shipyard, Ive had fans and other things runnin backwards till I swapped the legs (wires) and got them goin the right direction.

That would be because it goes into a bridged rectifier on them,   them hoist motors dont have that.
