i know in the older chevys they had a few different transmission and transfercase combos and im wondering which set up had the longest rear driveshaft for a single cab long box truck.  i currently have an 82 chevy single cab long box with a 4in lift 350 trans 241 t case and a 14 bolt ff.  the original set up in this truck was a sm465 208 and a semi floater with a 4in lift.  i swapped all that out for what i have now and my rear drive shaft does work but i would say it is a little short.  there is a decent amount of the slip yoke sticking out of the tcase but i have never had a problem.   here in a few weeks im puttin an 8in lift in it and have a feeling my rear driveshaft is going to be to short.  so im wondering  if there was a longer driveshaft that came in these trucks.  maybe something with a different trans/tcase like 400/208?   i dont have the extra money at the moment or i would just have one built so im hoping i can find something that will get me by for now.

thanks for any help

The 400 and sm465 are longer than the th350 that is why your rear shaft is a little short to begin with most of the other setups with longer shafts are off of 203 or 205 cases with a th350 but all of those are fixed yoke with that much lift you probably need a shaft made

X2 with an 8 inch lift.................No stock rear D shaft is gonna work.................your gonna have to have one made. And to be honest......its probably gonna cost 200/250. depending on who you have do the work.    Joint clutch and Gear in Bay city can do it.........but my personal opinion......they tend to be expensive.

Olena's in Mount Pleasant did mine, and I paid 165.00 for a new rear driveshaft...........but that was 12 years ago.

if i have to have one built i planned on having Will from joint clutch and gear build it if the price was right.  i just have to get ahold of him and see if he is building them out of his barn yet.  told me awhile ago he can give a better price if he does stuff like that out of his barn rather then at work.     ive never had one priced out before and just assumed like 400-500 which i dont wanna spend that right now but if its say half that  then thats not to big of a deal.

before i put my 84 standard cab long box on rocks. it had a 4'' lift, a turbo 350 trans and a married 205 t-case with a slip yoke.....i used a DODGE rear driveshaft from a late 90's half ton that was ext. cab short box stock height. i hade to take 2'' off it and it fit in perfectly after that.

i would rather spend a lil and get one built right rather then me just gettin pipe and making it myself.   chances are the truck wont see the road very often but i do plan on taking it to silverlake and if i do then it will be driven on the road there so i dont have to trailer it in

when i had mine lengthened for my truck it was less then 100 and they replaced everything but the slip yoke. i went through a guy my dad knew but joint clutch was the one who built it.
