400 turbo anti shift

what is it actually called and wheres the best spot to get one. isn't it like a spring or something you change behind the 4 bolts towards the rear of tranny. i am sick of the old chevy shifting itself before 5 grand it needs to stay in first gear till i say so!

I would buy a manual valve body may cost more but its the best way.. you can change gov. springs I have a 400 that shifts at 6800 now and works ok but I would do a manual valve body next time. well thats what I did in my 350 lol

just take it out? ......... im gonna be putting 7000 rpm chip in my msd. will it hurt the tranny besides the obvious lol. i do have a spare 400 ready to go and a 350 turbo after that so heck i dont care anyway i guess.

Autozone sells adjustable ones IIRC

on my travels through the internet, researching 400s and full manual valve bodys,i read this thing online that you can remove a check valve and drive it into one of the holes in the valve body, and widen a couple holes in the VB plate and gasket. and it gives you full manual shifts from 1st to 2nd.


but makes sure you watch a video or get a diagram, theres alot of holes on them plates, and quite a few check valves.  loll

Hmmm. thanks ive heard theres a few ways to make it work just want the cheapist easiest way to do it.

here ya go, maybe research some more. but ive read all the stuff from this guys MULTIPLE websites, and this video is very credible. this guy knows what hes doing.

I've heard that it can be as simple as opening up a couple holes, 1 or two in the plate
n' put em together.. just need to be sure which holes.

what exactly do you want?  buy a governer spring and weight kit... change them out until it shifts right.. you can also adjust the vacuum modulator

how do ya adjust the vacum modulator? do ya got to buy one or are the stock ones adjustable? hmmm.. if i plugged off the vacum modulator will it stay in first gear?

buy a gov spring and weight kit if you wont use a manual valve body.. and just to let you know with the spring and weight kit dont just put the lightest stuff in it wont shift or at least mine didnt it took us 4-5 hours to get it right... another reason I went back to 350th...

my dad always pulled the gov out and removed the lightest spring and put it back in mud dragged bogged and trail rode it for years. it slammed pretty hard when you would down shift and the only way it was going to sec or 3rd was by you shifting it
