ASE certified??

i ve been thinking about going back to school myself  to get ase cert. but what do i need to do? i m in the flint area  what n where would be the best place to go to?   just would love to have some kind of cert so i can get a side job or even a better job incase something happens to my workplace even if it will..   inputs and help please guys?  its  time for me to make a move or step up than waiting for something to happen

Are you state cert? You can go to OU or another collage that does online test and take one . Books to study at library . There bout $90 a test

State tests are 6 bucks a piece, you take them at any sec of state supercenter. You can also get a trainee permit, good for 2 years and lets you work in all areas under a mechanic who is master certified. Ase is good tho because im pretty sure in michigan ase automatically overrides state certs. A couple state certs is a gpod startimg point though, there cheap and pretty easy to take if you have a decent knowladge amd a little skill. Haha probably true. I wish i welded more, i dont seem to get as much practice as i like. Welding is probably a little more fun too. (As long as your not 50 stories up welding a building together lol)

i think itt may be more for computer kinda stuff, like IT sort of things. I hear thats a pretty good industry tho.

Baker college in flint is where I went, it was pretty deccent, but they do.make you take gen ed. Classes, not just auto classes.

Just go down to the SOS and take a few test just for the heck of it, you might be suprised how smart you really are. I went one day, took all of the regular auto test, including the one for older cars, then took the one for motorcycles. Out of all that in one day, i did fail the heat-AC test though, and had to re-take. Bottom line is, they arent all that hard.

x2 I been thinkin bout doin that myself, but dont wanna buy a bunch more tools. Thats a major consideration, them tools.

not to mention if you are state certified you are not supposed to work on vehicles anywhere except a shop. You can get in trouble just changing oil in your driveway lol. Don't hear of people getting caught though. Probably just a stupid law that don't get enforced.

I've never heard of that, and they never said anything when i got my state certs... Kinda curious and gonna look into.it lol

Yeah, something about how shops are inspected for safety by the state and ASE and thats why they are allowed to repair/service vehicles. So unless your garage/driveway passes state and ASE inspection you are not allowed to service vehicles in it. LOL like I said, I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for it, but it is a law none the less.

Idk I've looked online on SOS and seen nothing  about it, the most i seen was if your getting compensation for repairs then you must be certified,  I could see you getting in trouble if you were running a non legit repair shop in your garage, charging people, but then you would get in trouble regardless if you are certified or not,

The whole point of the law is too keep dumb people from hurting others, because "they think they know" but they really don't. on top of that. the state probably isn't going to get there taxes out of the deal.
