Your best bet is to find a running motor. Ounce you take parts to a machine shop it can get exspensive real quick. Just built me a motor started as just a .60 bore an some new parts and before I knew it Had a 2500 machine shop bill ==doh
i dont have a mud bogging problem, i got it under control

Cost less to build a 350. I realize you are on a budget, and are trying to save money, but doing it all yourself isn't necessarily the cheapest route. Find something complete and cheap you can upgrade. You will end up with at least a $1000 305, as opposed to a 350 that's is complete and runs for about $400 if you choose to use what you have.

The heads alone to get redone going to be a couple hundred bucks then you got the cost of boring the block probley   and then pistons and getting the pistons pressed on the rodes it all adds up very fast i have a "cheap"  .60 over 302 with probly 3200 into it before it ever got fired it cost so much it took 3 years to get all the parts and do it myself ya you get the pride of saying i built that motor but its going to cost alot im just saying id just find a running 350

What are you puttin this motor in ???
I have a .40 over 305 in the Cheap..
runs ok, but for me.. seriously under powered..

if this is going in a full size you will probably be disappointed.

It's all in parts matching, if you run say a 9-1 comp, a mild cam that gives you an idle to 4500-5000rpm power band, the stock tbi heads with port matching and mild polishing along with a 600cfm carb or the tbi with a 454 tbi unit you'd have a great all around motor. That set up would allow you to run trails with low end but yet still have enough rpm to have fun In the mud. And would probably make peak horsepower around 4000 rpm or so.
