9/27/13 - Competitors in the sport of mud bogging drive trucks through long stretches of mud, with those who actually complete the challenge ranked by best time. Marion Township Supervisor Bob Hanvey says every year at least four or five mud bogging events take place in the township, and residents have complained of excessive noise and traffic as a result. Some have also reported attendees of the event driving on lawns and making a mess on local roads. The issue was brought up at last night's meeting of the Marion Township Board. Hanvey told the board that officials had experienced similar complaints in other municipalities, including Unadilla, Handy, and Conway Townships. At first, the board discussed creating an ordinance to manage the events by requiring organizers to obtain permits and proof of insurance. However, after some discussion it was decided that an effort by the county government may be more effective since the county can enforce its ordinances with action by the sheriff's department. Hanvey says he is now considering contacting the other township supervisors to see if they can prompt the creation of a ordinance regulating these activities on a county-wide scale.

So what can we as a mud community do to help this situation. There has to be an increase in revenue for the townships whenever one of these events is held. Fuel sales, food, beverages, auto parts, etc. There is destruction of property everyday without a bog being held. Kids will be kids..In my opinion a grad party has the same results. Underage drinking, driving under influence, accidents, and stupidity. So should the townships make grad party's have a special permit too???

This has been an ongoing problem for years in communities, several bogs are shut down, but the question is now can we help stop this??

Any suggestions???

Wristbands for over 21??
Can bogs give back to local communities after events?? Donate for schools, or parks etc??
