I got a 1994 gmc Sierra 4x4 and I cracked my 4l60e trans instead of looking into getting it rebuilt for the second time I have a Grendel that told me he would sell me a used 4l60e out of a 96 suburban I've had bad luck with these for years 6 of them have broken on me between shattered tail ends of the transmission bad torque convertor a shift solonoid my motor is a 350 tbi I wanted to know of I can bolt up a turbo 350 with no issues would be greatly apriciated for the input

the turbo 350 will work just got to buy and adapter so ur tcase will bolt to the trans

Personally if it was me I would put a 4l60 back in it and drive it, not sure why you have bad luck with them, they are not a terrible trans

I would also but the 60 back in. A 700r4/4l60/4l60e are the same strength wise as a th350. People give them a bad rap though because they over heat them in overdrive with either the torque converter being unlocked or towing in overdrive.  A 96 case will work in your truck but all the internal electronics will have to be switched to what was in the 94. 93-94 will interchange with out issues. For the th350 you will need the trans to transfer case adaptor and the correct output shaft for the length of it. Or you could use the factory adaptor and move the transmission crossmember and lengthen/ shorten your drive shafts.

no  way too hook up a speedometer with 350 ???

jake harr

The guy that wants to sell me the trans says that it's a hd trans in a suburban because it's a k code truck to the best of y knowledge my trck is as we'll a k code vehicle something sounded a little fishy about that any ideas

Pretty sure speed sensor is in the tcase, with a adapter plate he would still have the same tcase.

Your gonna have more of a headach putting a th350 in there, like said before driveshaft lengths, crossmembers and mounts lining up, and any wiring from the 4l60...

K code refers to truck being 4x4

That's what I assumed there's no real 4l60e heavy duty trans

camok10

There is it's a 4l65 in newer ls powered trucks, there internals will fit into a standard 4l60 and on a 4x4 truck the speed sensor is in the transfer case so no issue there

where do ya put the big round plug from the trans into? I thought the 2 had to be hooked up for the computer too work right with speedometer  just wondering  not tryin too bee a smart a$$ ???

lilred

Newer tcase has reluctor ring and sensor on tailshaft housing, that's all that the computer needs.

The big plug controls all the electronics like shift silonoids torque converter lock up and such in The transmission, input shaft speed is monitored and if it senses different from tail shaft speed it throws code p1870 which is transmission slippage code. But the speedo on the dash only takes tail shaft for that.

I thought the 2 had too work together ??? my bad  soo in theory my truck that has a 700 in place of the 4l60 the speedometer  should work???

lilred

As long as you plug the speed sensor on the tcase in, yes

camok10

Yours is a 2wd correct? It would depend on the year of the 700. The big thing would be a mechanical vs electronic for the speedometer output. But yes it should work in theory.

x2,

it will be easier just to replace with same trans.  Also might be computer hassles to worry about switching to a non electronic trans.
