Your Hardtop is not Covered under Full Coverage

Just so you Wrangler owners know if your hardtop and/or doors are damaged or stolen when they are off of your Jeep they are not covered by your full coverage
insurance.
I now know this after experiencing both sides of this event.
My hardtop was damaged in the Ice storm from earlier this year, took it to the approved Chrysler dealership it was a $2500 claim the hardtop shell was damaged,
and needed to be replaced. Chrysler no longer makes or offers a hardtop for a 97-06 Wrangler so the dealership had me fill out a form and sent me a check.

So part 2 of my adventure:
I located a hardtop and bought it, On the way home from picking it up, a teenager ran a red light and my truck ended up getting totaled along with the "new" hardtop
so I talk to my agent and explain the ordeal, the claim came back denied because its not technically part of the Jeep if its not on it at the time of damage.

So needless to say I have been arguing with them for a month. Not only did I lose a Snowplow/firewood hauler truck but I am out the hardtop too.

I know this is a strange situation, but the fact is after talking to many adjusters and managers for AAA of Michigan I have learned that if your Hardtop and Doors are off the Jeep they are NOT COVERED at all.

They don't even have a precedent to work from.

So that's my story Use this info to verify from your agent that its covered, but get it in writing. Don't learn the hard way like I did.

So what you just went thru really sucks but that raises another question about if your fiberglass cap from your truck gets damaged while not attached to truck will that claim also be denied? One would think when you pay the premiums for full coverage on your vehicle all parts of it would be covered but the insurance companies seem to have wiggle room so they deny deny deny.

If not on the vehicle, it should be covered under homeowners insurance, just like any other property.

it was in an accident, nothing to do with home owners. I imagine it would be covered if tow vehicle had full coverage.

i missed that, should have been covered by the truck hauling it then.  If the truck hauling it only had PLPD then you are SOL.  Your cargo falls under the auto policy.
