Looking for alum rad.

Having a hard time keeping my motor cool on hot days with a 4 core copper rad.

I need a (27 1/4" X 19")

I'm trying to find a place that makes/sells them. BeCool rads are like $700+
I'm looking to spend ~$300

I'd like to get a 4 core. But I'm not entirely sure if I need it or not?

Northern radiator.  Cheap all aluminum. Never had a issue keeping my 400 cool. Get one through Speedway.

A 3 core aluminum will cool better than a 4 core copper.

no on 4 core alum.   be cool its  biggest is 2 core. the cores on alum are bigger then copper rad.

Most aluminum radiators are two core, they just have bigger cores.

Gotcha. Should I just use the longest rad possible? Like instead of a 19x27, use like a 19x35?

My biggest problem, obviously I'm not trying to waste money. So if I can stay cool with a stock size 2 core aluminum, then that's what I'll end up getting. But I'd hate to spend the money on it, then turn out that it's still overheating. As it sits now, it gets hot on a hot summer day idling, and gets hotter while cruising trails at slow speeds, or sitting at stop lights. I have to be cruising pretty fast to take off heat, (highway). I have a blown 496bbc, dual electric fans, oil cooler with electric fan, and aluminum heads.

So if I don't need a huge rad to cool it, then I'd like to put that extra money some place else.

But it's kind of a gamble.


Ps. Has anyone tryed that off the shelf 'water wetter'? And does it work? And how well?

Water wetter is for people that can't use anti freeze, for whatever reason. It's basically alcohol, and does work well when used with just water.

the bigger the rad  means theres more thermal mass   / coolant /water  diet coke whatever ya put in there   theres a larger volume  too cool  id get ahold of b cool they make some good radiators  and also theres a place in bay city that will take a stock aluminum radiator with plastic tanks  and put aluminum tanks on it soo they wont leak if that's the way ya want too go

we are not saying to use a stock alum rad. you need to look at the size of tubes in the rad. I would look at what you can fit in your truck for a rad to make as big as you can.  that's only going to help cool it

drag racers are not allowed use antifreeze. because antifreeze gets on the track its slick and dose go away.

Could a 20lb cap help at all?

Should I run a 50/50 mixture? Or a 60/40?

Problem solved.

I called BeCool, they gave me the part number for a direct fit rad, and they guarantee it to cool up to 1,000hp with the fans they provide.

Griffin has a rad that's direct fit into my truck, and the cores and tubes are larger, for like $260. And I have dual electric fans. So I think I'm going to go that route.

I rum a Howe racing part # 342j it was $250 shipped at summit. Keeps my 388 cool at 6800rpm all day
