Has anyone ever heard of pouring water into the engine to clean it?

I read this on another forum. I never heard this before. I have heard of cleaning it with seafoam.  I did a search on google for the water cleaning method, I was surprised there was quite a bit of information about it. No I don't plan on doing it. I just thought it would make for interesting conversation.

A friend described an interesting motor cleaning method to me, and just wanted to get what other people think.
**DISCLAIMER**In no way would I ever try this, and I recommend no one try it.

Get the motor hot, by letting it run for 10 min, then open the hood, take off the air filter, and pour a cup of water slowly into the intake.

I'm aware motors have seals, and that this will likely destroy good internal compression.

This friend said that the water will clean out any junk, and that he has done it plenty of times.

Is this friend loony, or have you tried/heard about doing it?

ive did this many times on old carberated cars & it seem to work... this is no p00... it actully worked... ive done this 100s of times, i learned it from my cousin Ed who was a mechanic... we called it givin it a drink...
we would pour it in the carb while givin the engine throttle, so it wouldnt stall, i swear to the mud gods... it worked, seemed to clean the carbon buildup out of the old leaded engines...

ive done it a few time  it was 50/50 i guess  the water is suppose to help free up the valves and crude  built up     card cleaner evaporates to fast   and burns   not a liquid as the water is to help flush   dont use to much and stall the motor out        the o rings and seal should not be bothered my this      i ve also heard of trany fluid   thru the carb instead of water  and coke on the windows  to clean them               a good trick for shinny car   trany fuild gives a hell of a gloss      even as a tire shine    ps  keep it out of the dirt  tho    it sticks to it

The water turns to steam  which blasts the inside of the engine removing all the crude in its path.  Learned this old trick way back in auto shop class.  Good old "Mac" was an awsome teacher.

I've done it many times to blow the carbon build up off the piston and combustion chamber.
I doubt it would do much good in a good clean running engine but its helpful in a worn out oil burner that fouls out plugs. I doubt it would make a differance if it were fuel injected or not I've
done it to both. Just rev it up and dump it in slowly so you don't hydrolock it.
I have also used water injection system to keep engines from getting carboned up.
I've only used tranny fluid to help sticking valves after a long sit.
