Now I know the way to go is Brodix when coming to hi-horse power. But I was just wondering if anyone knew about the Vortec Flow numbers and how Good those things actually are. Now im Building a set for my 84 monte and they are going on a 383 stroker. They are the 062's so the little bit better than the other ones. I had them bench flowed and the numbers came out:

@500 lift- intake 240cfm
@500 lift- exhaust 160 cfm

Now that I have port work done and about as far as those things can open up we have found these numbers:

@400 lift- intake 320 cfm
@400 lift-exhaust 224 cfm

We didnt have much time cause we had alot to do but when we seen those numbers we were stunned. Needless to say I sold my edeljunk heads and went back to a GM head. we have 3 cars going in the 10sec area ON A GM HEAD! AND ON MOTOR!

Anybody else find hidden secerets in a big 3 manufactured head?

i know everyone is not going to agree on which is the best head to run on a sb  but i was always told if you can afford it  the best to go with  for a sb is a set of afr heads.   if i was to build another small block id be runnin a set of them on it.

ROCK

just picked up a set of 906's for a new project. they'll be going on a 383.

I like my dart iron eagles but if I had the cash I would have some afr heads!!!!

I'm not calling you a liar but I have a set of 227cc afrs with a 210 intake valve and per your numbers they out flow mine. I'm very skeptical of those flow numbers.

I Have the Sheet and there are numbers on the internet. and that 210 they say on a AFR is a lie! Those AFR's are bada$$ heads. Those things work, so Yes for aftermarket head I would go with a AFR or Brodix. But those Vortec head's are Very underestimated. We have a buddie hitting hi 9's with a little over .500 lift cam on a stock bottom end 350 and a 1.94 intake valve still! in a 1970 nova. with a 150 little juice shot of course

i've seen some impressive numbers out of vortecs, and i've said a million times, bigger runners don't mean more power.. you can actually loose power with to big of a head on your motor, the vortec's  "secret" is how they build velocity into the air charge, and how they get their flow outa smaller runners

none of that matters when you are talking about the volume of flow

It may matter if your talking from a horsepower standpoint.  A opening the size of a dime well not produce the flow that a quarter size will. Velocity is a measure of speed not volume.

What porting did you do to these heads to get those numbers?

ourlittleranger92

We did alot of porting on these heads. About as much metal you could get out of them double barrel rolled. smooth as glass ports. short sides were cleaned up and the edge gone. the exhaust port is alot bigger than it used to be. the guides have been taken out. and bowls cleaned and cut. we left the Stock 1.94 int and 1.50 exh valves in them because we did not need any bigger. its on a .500 lift ish cam with a 108Lobe Sep. custom Grind low duration. 13:1 comp. These heads are no joke. My edelbrock performer RPM's Fully ported do not compare to these things.

No those are considers "swirl Port" heads. The vortec is 96-99. Those TBI heads are junk yet you can still get some numbers out of those.

I've got a 4.3 L vortec in my s10 blazer and man let me tell you it is sick!!   Just kidding!!!

But I have been thinking of picking up a set of vortec heads for my 355, I think for the price and do a port and polish they are a good deal,  it makes me wanna get a set after seeing the flow numbers you got !!
