unbolt the convertor from the flywheel, take the transfercase off the trans. there is no shortcuts to this job.  if your outside have a can for every nut and bolt, and take the distributor cap off so you dont break it.

Idk how I'd break the distributer cap?

If you dont support the back of the motor, when you pull the trans back the motor  will drop and your dist will hit the firewall.  Crack goes your cap.

yes you can but it will cost big bucks and if you really plan on running that kind of power i would look at a different trans

Yea, I already got the power. But I REALLY like the 700 cuz of 4th gear. I drive this truck daily in the summer time, and after work and on weekends I bog/race the living p00 out of it. So I do use the power I make.

And I like 4th gear for roads, I'm not spinning high rpms and save a lot on gas.

x2 if you really have 850 hp I would look for a 400th to have built to run the power also with that kinda power your gunna want a converter built to run your motor , gear, tire size, and truck weight so everything works right.

Yes I've been doing my hw on what I can. It's  not 850hp, it's 800 (depending on psi) I just want to be safe. But I need a 10" 3500-3800 stall, and one that's for nitrous/blower applications. I do have a tranny cooler, but idk how much that will help. And I know a th400 would be the best for what I got, and it's alot cheaper. But I don't like high rpms on the road. But I guess that means drive slower or get bigger tires ;)

Will I run into any trouble swapping the 700 for the 400? Like any mounting differences? Or length changes I have to worry about?

the mount that goes across from frame rail-rail that holds up the back of your trans/transfer case. or if u want u could build your own

What are you running that has 800hp on the street. If you really have that much power I don't see overdrive helping that much since it drinks the gas anyways. I would go for Turbo 350 or 400 over a 700r4 anyday with that much power. You could always go 4l80e if you really want overdrive but that's alot of money.

For overdrive built transmissions they can't be beat. Alot of money but the newer 1000hp vettes are swapping from the pro built 4l60es to the 80s because they can handle anything you throw at them.

yea but you will probably have more into having it built then its worth 800 hp seems a little much for the road imo

Well, have this old built muscle 427 sitting in the polbarn. As is it's about 6-700hp. Got a blower now, putting a few pounds. Got bored this winter, looked at the truck, looked at the motor, looked back at the truck, then smiled. I think some of you guys may have had that feeling befor.

But as far as the trans, I blew my $$ fast on the motor. Lol
So budget wise, I'm leaning towards the 400, but since I'm out of $ and short on time.I figured I would just bite the bullet and was just going to try and keep the 700 and just save up and build it since I already have it. Cuz I'm worried I won't find a th400 in time.

When the trucks finished I'm selling it and putting the motor back into a car.
