ok i just answered my own question.,
yes the pinion 4 times to 1 would be a 4.10 and a posi if you spin on side the other side should spin the same way as long as the pinion is stationary ( in park or holding with a screw driver or something ) and if it spins the opp way it would be an open diff....

Yea.. It prolly would be, But this truck has been in the family for a long time... so I would like to keep it...
that makes sense then...might wanna consider a frame swap also and just throw your body on a straight axle frame

A lot easier, if he wants everything to work the same. So many differences between 73-91C frames and 88-98 frames, everything from the fuel tank to which side the brake lines are ran. Its all different.

Gm hasn't used a solid axle in years. 1987 was the last year even in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

. . . solid axles were used by GM up until 1991 in the classic trucks, crew cabs, and Suburbans, blazers. Also all 3500HDs from the 88-98 bodies had solid axle (beam axle for 2wds, diff axle for 4x4s) until they were discontinued in 2000.

Yea but prolly 99% of gm trucks after 87 were ifs.

If you got a crew cab, suburban, jimmy, or blazer, or chassis cab, they could be solid axle. That's a lot of solid axle trucks from 88-91. 1992 and on, yeah all but the 3500HD were ifs.

Yea I was mistaken, the dodge are 5 x5.5 but I was looking at dodge 3/4 8 lug with the 4.10's and I think i am just going to do both, front and back, i think i would be better then getting a ford 5 lug and changing the hub, also I wanna run 38x16.5x16 so I figured the 410 would help turn the tire a little better then the 373 thats in my Chevy IFS now... I am going to do some slight mods to the motor but not much, I got a whole new exhaust, headers, and i got 305 heads, with a little heavier springs in them and the OE chevy stamped steel rockers.... Do to the fact mine is a TBI i am looking into a new bolt on TBI upgrade to 670 cfm... and a high rise intake, and I want to know
if the high rise with the TBI would make it any better or i guess if it would be worth the 2800 bucks...lol I figured some where in the high 300 low 400's for HP... you know port and polish I am going to get as much as I can...

I'm pretty sure high rise intake performance range is really high RPM's. So if your motor is not built to run ion the 4000 to 5000 rpm area it really wont do you much good. For boggin and stuff like that youre gonna want a dual plane. Thats what i was told anyway.

you can also adjust your fuel psi on your stock tbi to get more fuel, the fuel pressure regulator is built in to the housing the injectors are bolted to, and it is adjustable :)

I wonder if dodge has that? Something to google i guess
