Lol mudfit     yeah u needed one more strap to hold the axle under the trailer! ==roll

Bo Duke

4 chains 4 binders, crossed, attached to that axle, about 45* out, zip tie and wrap the chain around the handles to make sure they dont pop off...... that being said, being a truck driver in the Army i get to deal with a lot of in experienced drivers.... the stuff these guys do is crazy.... like use 4 ratches straps with a load rating under 3000 pounds on an up armored humvee..... But we haul a lot of rolling stock... just today i had to tie down 4 semi's, im getting pretty quick....

I'm in the trucking business. The rule is if you have a vehicle that rolls (wheels) over 10k you need 1 tie down on each corner. Under 10k you need 1 front and back. straps are fine, but they cannot be cut or be hooked up in a way that they will be cut in an accident or emergency stop.

Chains are nice because you dont have to worry about the cutting. Straps are nice because they are light and easier to use.

make sure you know how to properly use whichever type of tie down you choose.

If your using straps you need to inspect them and make sure they dont have any cuts more than 1/4 of the way across the strap. also make sure whatever you wrap them around on the truck does not have any sharp (this includes square edges).

Also in trucking and agree w/ ^^^

we do fall under DOT regulations while transporting..
binders require wire ties to prevent them from coming undone while underway also..
wrapping your extra chain around the binder is a no no.. nonoo

why is wrapping your extra chain around the binder a no no?

DOT says that it is not a proper locking method for binders..
they must be secured in such a manner that they cannot pop open..
has to do with load securement regs..

also, with chains.. if you drop your hook down thru a stake pocket and bring it back around to hook on
the top of the pocket .. also a no no, the pressure exerted on the hook and the link that makes the turn are incorrect..
chains are designed for straight pull, steady pressure only.. any side loading of the links/hook are unacceptable.
by DOT definition you must drop the hook down thru the stake pocket and attach it at the bottom edge of the pocket.

Just FYI
