BIG TODD

so did you and ty end up working on the truck this weekend ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

ProGrade

I got some work done after Ty left yesterday...We had our Grandpa's funeral saturday so we didn't work on anything together...Yesterday I rehinged the toolbox lid, got the fuel tank out and into the toolbox, and shortened the spout.  have to get some hose to make up the distance up to the toolbox and strap the tank down and the tank will be done.  I decided not to do the blocks he had for me because i didn't feel comfortable putting blocks on the front axle so i will be doing lots of cutting. I don't mind really because the body is so shot anyway.

Well last night I cut the driver's side front fender.  It took me an hour to safely get the suspension to full compression on that corner.  Once I got it to the point in the picture, I was still an inch from the bump stop so i started jacking up the passenger side rear to get it the rest of the way there.  I took a foot of change at the frame to get it there.  Now I was ready to cut.  I turned the tire til it hit the front and cut enough clearance for the tire to move freely with over an inch of clearance. Then i wanted to clean it up a bit.  The inner fender was rotted at the transition from the verticle to the horizontal where the core support meets up, so i cut there, marked the front and cut it about 9/16 below the point i wanted the outer fender.  I made tabs and folded them in to make a nice edge.  here's pics.

Next I worked on the rest of the fender.  I made templates of the wheel well curve, and turned the tire and cut where it was hitting. Then I put the template on and cut to get about 1? clearance on the rear curve, the top didn?t rub, but to be safe I notched and rolled the fender back about ½? to 5/8?, I think it turned out pretty good.  I want to ad a bigger radius in front of the tire.  I still have some patching to do inside the fender and will post pics when I get those.

you got a big truck , lets go!   the passenger side will be a lot faster.  i took a total of 2 1/2 hours last night on the drivers side (like i said earlier it took over an hour just to get it in the air.  but now i know exactly where to cut, so the pass side will be easy, plus i dont have to jack it up.  for the box sides, i am going to just cut and roll it, I dont think i have any clearance issues there.  heres a before and after comparison.

Finally made it out to the garage again! WooHoo!!!  ;D  The Reject lost some weight in the process too.

Got all the wheelwells cut, and cut out for the tucked rear bumper I'm putting on (got a little bit of tweaking to do there yet)  Not as much as I wanted done, but definitely made some solid progress. Next I need to get rid of everything else underneath the truck that I don't need.

quick update, last night I retorqued the u-bolts, installed the front brakes, hooked up the steering arm and stablilizer, added new diff. fluid, mounted the shocks, hooked up the front driveshaft, and cleaned and reassembled and installed the lockouts.  front driveline is done!

well yesterday I retorqued the rear ubolts, mounted the rear shocks, and buttoned up a couple other things, I was bolting up the rear driveshaft and snapped the last bolt on the u-joint straps (didn't clean out the threads)  my own laziness set me back a bit, now i've got to finish getting the remainder of the bolt out... p00 happens, could have been worse i guess. at least it wasn't a lug stud or something.

put in a few hours last thursday night.  got the broken bolt in the yoke taken care of, the driveshaft is up.  Driveline is done!  ran the fuel lines and changed my location for the fuel tank a bit.  had big plans to finish the electrical to the fuel pump and mount the battery to fire it up friday night but those fell through, so hopefully this week.  getting closer though. mama is anxious to get it out of the garage so hopefully that = more garage time to work on it.

Fuel lines are in, tank is wired up in the toolbox, and it runs! Actually it runs damn good.  drove it up and down the driveway last night, I didn't want to head down the road because i haven't bled the brakes.  Lots of little stuff to do, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  heres a pic of it in the driveway!

well Tera wants to go to the mounds tomorrow!  i guess the article got her all giddy about the mud again.  that means its crunch time tonight.  gotta get several little things done.  the truck wont be completely done, but good enough to get out there and play a little.

Tonight I need to mount the towbar, cover the engine sides, fab and run the intake hose, secure the fuel tank, brace and patch the cab floor, patch the windshield, top off all the fluids (incl. axles), put in a pass. side oh p00 bar, and if i have time bleed the brakes.

replacing the windshield will have to wait, along finishing the hitch relocation in the rear, wiring in push button start and e-stops, mounting the 35" spare (i have a 31" i can use).

My brother will be in town, so i will have at least one set of extra hands, if anyone else is bored and wants to work for beer tonight so we can move the debut of the Rusted Reject up to tomorrow pm me.   ++peace
