hard to beleive i havent updated this in a while... got the front axle all cleaned out now so its done boggin for the year but ill still trail ride with it and play in the snow banks  tested out the hitch today at a buddies house and moved a tri-axle horse trailer from the 70s with mostly flat tires, suprisingly held up well!! 

been lookin into a 400 sbc to rebuild and put in it in the spring/summer next year!!

built some workbench/shelf space for the parts of the motor and got it on the engine stand. manifolds, accessories, and timing cover all off. its def a high nickel block

got the motor stripped down to the shortblock today. its definately not the nicest block around but i know theres worse out there. its a 79. it looks like there may have been some heating issues around the number 4-6 cylinder cuz the bolt came out almost blueish like it was majorly overheated. inside was pretty crusty like it has gone through some neglect... but havent broken any bolts off in it yet... knock on wood... took a dial guage to the worst cylinder walls and got a close measurement, like .012 - .015ish per side considerin it wasnt a good direct measurement cuz it was at an angle. so looks like its gonna need at least a .030 bore

got it all torn down today... it had major bearing issues. none of em were anywheres near normal wear. found out most of the rods(except cyl 3,4) hand numbers punched into the rods and caps and all the main caps had punch marks in it. so it was torn down at some point for SOMETHING. was not lookin too good down there. looked like there was some sand or something in the system. the cam wouldnt even slide out of the block cuz of block warpage or somethin. had to tap it out wth a hammer and block of wood. not to mention that cam was startin to show porosity and a few places had burn marks where the lifters werent hitting it, not to mention none of the lifters were shiny like theyre supposed to be from riding on the cam

so glad i didnt just drop it into the truck and hope it would go

finished pocket porting the heads today, dropped all the parts off to my buddy that works at a machine shop to get miced up and cleaned all up! 

but as i was on my way home and i was taking a turn my driveshaft seemed to have come disloged from my truck....  the rear ujoint at the pig had a bearing cap burn out or somethin so i locked the hubs kicked it in 4 and got it outta the way, picked up the shaft and started heading down the road with only fwd... heres where another problem developed:

when i was going down the road the front end seemed to vibrate massively, not shimmy back and forth but like up and down... so i couldnt go more than like 15 and my dad and i are completely baffled as to why it would do that when it rides just fine in 2wheel

well heres the bad news:

found out today that there are 3 exhaust valves with cracked seats from them just checking it over before the magnafluxing, so now theres a chance the guides may be no good.... so all of that porting work and i hours i put into it are WORTH NOTHING  so it back to the drawing board! gonna just find me some vortec heads and have some steam hiles drilled in em and call it good. cant argue with the best flowing production cast iron head gm has ever made
